Novastar chooses a Digico SD8 for the audio capturing of the new DVD

2009 is the year of Novastar, proves the success of the most recent album "Almost Bangor". Six months after the release of the successful album, Novastar releases a live DVD with the highlights of the tour in both Belgium and the Netherlands. Roel Snellebrand, sound engineer of the live DVD, tells us more about his experiences with the Digico SD8.

"We captured the audio of this live DVD with a Digico SD8. All channels were sent to the SD8 via the MADI-rack. The console itself was in one of the dressing-rooms where a mobile direction was set up" told Roel Snellebrand. " Through a HD convertor, we sent the signals to a Protools HD2-system. We used the RME MadiFace connected to my Macbook Pro as a backup recording system. All the digital equipment was connected with Wordclock. "

"The biggest advantage of the SD8 for this job was that we could sent the signal trough a digital snake via MADI without using the heavy multi cables and having loss of quality. Another big advantage is that we could easily split the Madi signal for the backup recording system" said Roel Snellebrand. "Also the fact that Digico uses the same high quality microphone preamps as used in the SD7, was very important for the final result."

"Recording the Novastar-DVD was my first time to use the Digico SD8." Roel Snellebrand was already familiar with the Digico D1 live and D5 live. "The very natural and logical feel of the surface is even better on the SD8, so it was easy to use" said Roel Snellebrand.
