Chris Wolters : "Riedel intercom has many possibilities"
VMMa has chosen a Riedel Artist to replace their intercom system. The system exists of two Artist 128 frames and one Artist 32 frame connected via a fiber ring. In total there are approximately 90 intercom panels of the 1000 and 2000 series connected to these three frames. Via a C44+ the light crew is connected with performer beltpacks to this ring.Chris Wolters, head of audio, explains: "We have chosen Riedel because at that point they had the most evolutionary intercom product. One of the biggest advantages is the digital treatment of the signal troughout the whole system. The connections between the frame and the panels are Coax cables which are very convenient in our broadcast environment. The small size, the weight and the robustness of the products were important features. With the redundancy, power supplies and fiber, we can avoid already a lot of problems."
Guy Hanneart, project leader of Actua adds: "The Riedel system is very flexible due to the many possibilities in the configuration. The system is controlled from one administrator computer from where we can configure the whole system. In my part there is an almost fixed configuration. Ivo uses constantly other setups which we load in with partial files."
Ivo De Cat, Project leader of the production studio enthuses: "It has a bunch of possibilities. For example you even can connect a speaker through the Riedel system with a source (e.g. FM radio to a backstage speaker). The audio quality is high enough so that we don't need to put extra cabling. Also the wired belt packs have an excellent audio quality, which is almost unique. In the production studios we have to be very flexible. Every day we have other freelance technicians with other demands. "
Wolters intervenes: "And not even one user complained about the convenience of this system. Everybody switched his workflow fluently to the new system without any problems."
He ends: "It is a system with an unbelievable range of possibilities and with a high audio quality. We are satisfied of the system."
