Report of Pearl Jam in Nashville on EAW KF760
Carlson Audio Systems, a Seattle-based rental company, has been contracted for providing the Front-Of-House system for all 47 shows of the US-leg of the 2003 tour of Pearl Jam.
Together with the band, the decision was taken for using the EAW line array KF760 + KF761.
For the Amsouth Theatre in Nashville, Carlson's Technical Director Allan Bagley, decided for using 16 x KF760 with 8 x KF761 and 24 x SB1000. This provided a perfect coverage of the venue with sufficient sub available.
During Soundcheck, one of the first things we heard were the perfect controll of the low-end. Later on, this seemed to be one of the strongest reasons for choosing the EAW KF760 as Line Array system. 'Most of the Line-Array system out in the market today, offer a nicely controlled High and Mid range, but a lausy controlled Low-End', commented Allan Bagley, 'And that was a problem for Pearl Jam's frontman Eddy Vadder, who has a very specific way of handling the microphone. And that was just where EAW sets itself appart in Line-Array. Appart of the perfectly controlled high and mid range, the Low-end stayed verry patern-controlled, even at frequencies of 250Hz and Lower.'
All signals comming of the stage were going first to a recording truck, where principal sound-engineer Brad, was adding effects, EQ's, Dyn's,... In this truck the whole show was recorded on a 48-track ProTools system. In less than 12 hours after the show, MP3's of all songs became available for fans that signed-up for a 'bootleg-recording' of the concert (a fully mastered CD becomes available 1 week after each concert).
Now, from the recording truck, the FOH-engineer got over 21 feeds. With these feeds the show was mixed on the FOH desk. The result was stunning. The show sounded great, with a lot of detail, and actually was like listening to a CD, but than with the punch one would expect of a Live-rig.
