Coda Audio 1 – Vuvuzelas 0
Friday 11th June 2010 was just an amazing day; it was a day when respect was earned by so many. Respect to South Africa as it presented a stunning World Cup opening ceremony in Soccer City, it was a day when dreams came true for everyone involved in staging this wonderful event. Respect for Bafana Bafana whose opening game of the World Cup delivered the first and a truly stunning goal of the tournament, resulting in a 1-1 draw against Mexico.
Further respect was gained at the InnesFree Park Fan Park in Sandton Johannesburg, where Coda Audio's AILINE LA 12 system proved to be a total winner too. Throughout South Africa, Fan Parks were established to allow the many thousands of spectators unable to get to a match ability to watch each game on big screens with accompanying entertainment, bringing to life the true party atmosphere and overwhelming joy that is South Africa at this time.
With the party spirit, comes the "Vuvuzelas", almost all fans carrying at least one of these horn like instruments of fun, needing no excuse to give it a big blast at anytime, fans and spectators have already made this instrument a major international news items, when you are having fun, you want to tell everyone about it, and when 40,000 people let you know they are having fun, all at once, the ambient noise level rises to such heights, it's almost impossible to believe any sound system could rise above the ensuing cacophony.
However, there is one system that did so with such ease and clarity that it too gained much respect on the opening day. Coda Audio's AIRLINE12 system was utilised by event specialists Sound Stylists for the InnesFree Fan Park, comprising of just 12 AIRLINE LA 12's and 4 AIRLINE LA8 down fill cabinets per side, plus 6 SC8 subwoofers per side, this compact system performed to such a high level that even at 250 metres from stage spectators could enjoy full undistorted audio at all times. The system was powered by CAMCO's new V8, a real power - house amplifier if ever there was one, and control of all elements was undertaken via a DiGiCo D5 console, just a perfect combination that will be in place for the full tournament period.
When asked to comment on the system during set-up and after the first event on the 11th June, FIFA organisers, systems engineers, event production management and TV producers, had to pick up their jaws from the ground first, to utter the following comments; amazing, unbelievable, never heard anything like it, it really sizzles.
With management teams from Coda Audio, Camco, Tadco and AWC on site to assist Sound Stylists with their very busy schedule during the tournament period, everyone was able to simply say, a great job well done.
