Smaart v7.0 Training
Apex offers you Smaart training classes in sound system measurement, optimization and acoustical analysis. February 8th and 9th Jamie Anderson (Rational Acoustics) is coming over to Belgium to give you a personal training of the brand new Smaart v7.0. We will start with the Smaart Fundamentals training followed by the Smaart Application training. If you follow these classes, you get a "Certificate of Attendance".There are two possibilities:
1. 2-day Smaart training V7.0 (350€pp)*
2. Combo package (2-day Smaart training + Smaart v7.0 license) (700€pp)*

Smaart Fundamentals:
Standard Session Length: 8 hrs.
Course Description:
This course covers the fundamentals of setting up a Smaart measurement rig and using Smaart to make basic RTA, Spectrograph, Transfer Function and Impulse Response measurements. Special attention is paid throughout the course to the subject of how to make valid and useful measurements, as opposed to simply making cool squiggly lines appear on the screen.
Topics Covered:
Fundamental Measurement Concepts
• Single channel vs. dual-channel measurements
• Time domain vs. frequency domain analysis
• What the heck is an FFT?
Smaart software overview
• Software install / update / upgrade
• Features overview / interface navigation
Anatomy of a measurement rig
• Basic hardware requirements
• Basic troubleshooting
RTA and Spectrograph Measurements
• Averaging and Banding
• Feedback identification (and other cool things to do with Spectrograph)
• Calibration for SPL
Impulse response measurements
• Setting the internal delay for Transfer Function measurements
• Measuring delay times for speaker system time alignment
• Tips for improving measurement quality
Transfer Function Measurements
• Magnitude, Phase & Coherence
• Data Thesholding Functions & Improving measurement quality
• Data Storage and Trace Averaging
Prerequisites:
Course is open to all interested persons - no prior measurement / system alignment experience required. This course does assume a working knowledge of professional sound system engineering practices and basic audio fundamentals. If you have any questions concerning course prerequisites, please do not hesitate to contact Rational Acoustics prior to registration.
Smaart Applications Seminar
Standard Session Length: 8 hrs.
Course Description:
This course covers basic applications of Smaart (and in some courses, Smaart AcousticTools) for loudspeaker and sound system alignment and response optimization. This course relies primarily on in-class measurements and examples of real-world data to cover its subject matter. As much as possible, this course concentrates on data interpretation as much as acquisition. And as in the Fundamentals course, special attention is paid throughout the course to the subject of measurement accuracy and validity.
Topics Covered:
*** Note - Topics covered will vary with class focus, experience and interests. ***
Fundamentals of sound system alignment/optimization.
• Fundamentals of system engineering
• System design for "alignability"
System Alignment Techniques
• Crossovers (including "mains to subs" crossover)
• Delay and support system alignment
Reading that damn phase trace!
Techniques for improving data quality
• Magnitude and Coherence Thresholding
• Using averaging and coherence
Measurement mic placement
External Device Control
• EQ and Processors control
• Basic troubleshooting
Prerequisites:
This course is offered for experienced Smaart users as well as persons who have attended the Smaart Fundamentals course. Prior system alignment experience is not required, but is helpful. This course assumes a working knowledge of professional sound system engineering practices and basic audio fundamentals. If you have any questions concerning course prerequisites, please do not hesitate to contact Rational Acoustics prior to registration.
