APEX Appoints Audires BV as EMEA Sales Representative

APEX has appointed Audires BV as its sales agent for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The two Belgium-based companies have partnered to ensure world class support for APEX’s newly launched CloudPower series of installation amplifiers.

Record breaking audio at AG Van Damme 2020 athletics meet

No fewer than 4 world records were smashed at the 44th AG Memorial Vandamme athletics meeting in Belgium. The 2020 event was held behind closed doors, but that didn’t deter the competitors. Crowd noise and cheers from 2019 were used to build the atmosphere in the King Baudouin Stadium, played through three APEX Intelli-Power 10 amplifiers, supplied by C&D. With a little help from technology the athletes delivered a successful and memorable spectacle.

How LIVIAU became mobile

Funeral home Vanhoof in Mol specializes in organizing all formalities associated with funerals and cremations. Their funeral services are often organized at different locations. Be it at their own multifunctional aula or at the local community hall, they require flexibility in their audiovisual set-up. Vanhoof was looking to upgrade their existing system for the extensive audio & video solution that LIVIAU provides. However, as their services are often rendered at multiple locations a fixed setup was not an option. Any new system needed to be easily transportable and intuitive. This is how the portable LIVIAU-series came to be. By making LIVIAU portable, funeral home Vanhoof can now rely on one familiar system that accommodates all their needs.

All the connectivity you need

LIVIAU’s mobile set-up includes a dynamic gooseneck microphone. This easy to use microphone features adjustable volume levels to match every situation. Adding an extra microphone becomes simple through the second connection port, which can also be used to connect additional external music sources such as a mobile phone, tablet or pc.

Featuring two speakON  connectors LIVIAU enables you to connect a passive speaker set to the internal amplifier. In addition, two XLR connectors are available to connect to your existing audio installation.

The internet connection serves to remotely control your business from anywhere in the world by smartphone, pc or tablet or to remotely drop your media files on LIVIAU’s upgradable internal hard disk and schedule them to play at any time.

Do you have the need to connect to a display across the room or maybe a projector even further away? The portable LIVIAU case houses a built-in HDMI extender that makes HDMI connections above 30 meters possible without any loss in signal quality. APEX launches Intelli-X² series of system control processors

Building on the unmitigated success of APEX’s flagship Intelli-X² series, the company is proud to introduce the first model of the next-generation Intelli-X³ series, the Intelli-X³ 648 system management processor with optional Dante networking capacity for full network redundancy.

Like its predecessors, Intelli-X³ has been designed in close collaboration with sound engineers, system techs and system integrators to set new standards in system management and speaker processing. With internal processing up to 192 kHz, high-end, studio-grade analogue circuit designs and mastering-grade compressors as standard, Intelli-X³ delivers premium audio performance in a robust 1U form factor with a powerful and intuitive front panel user interface.

Intelli-X³ provides all the system management tools necessary for comprehensive system alignment and EQ, through to the provision of IIR and custom FIR-based crossovers. I/Os can be selected (in pairs) to be either analogue, AES/EBU or Dante, enabling a mix of audio formats to be used simultaneously.

Designed to be Plug-and-play, the Intelli-X³ is simple to configure and integrates easily into any network via internal 3-way Ethernet switches. Both automatic IP (DHCP) and static IP configuration is provided as standard, enabling plug & play connectivity and more rigid IP assignments for use in fixed installations. SNMP support is also provided. Wireless access points can be directly connected to Intelli-X³ devices allowing direct control over a wireless network.

A comprehensive library of factory presets ensures that Intelli-X³ is at home in any application, be it as a stand-alone system controller or crossover configured via the front panel, or as a part of a comprehensive wireless networked system for stadium or arena-sized tours.

When it comes to configuration and control, there are two possibilities depending on the application: firstly, a completely re-engineered front panel with integral LCD menu enables direct configuration and on-the-fly parameter adjustment in a highly intuitive smartphone-like environment.

Alternatively, APEX’s renowned proprietary software application, Intelli-Ware, provides fast and intuitive control from both portable Touch and Tablet PCs as well as from tethered PCs. The software is accessible from multiple PC devices simultaneously – a handy feature for engineers needing to optimize audio from various locations throughout a venue or festival site for example. The interface mirrors the powerful, intuitive design of the hardware whereby operation is predominantly icon- driven.

Intelli-Ware provides comprehensive system-wide ganging and copy/paste functionality allowing
complex setups to be easily configured, presented and stored. The Intelli-Ware screen layout is fully configurable and can be sized to match any type of display. Full offline design capabilities enable shows to be prepped offsite.

Intelli-Ware also comes complete with an analyser/bridge feature which enables control of all commonly used sound measurement tools found in WaveCapture’s Live-Capture and Rational Acoustics’ Smaart 7/8, all directly from within the software.

Finally, an optional Dante module provides audio-over-IP networking capability supporting full network redundancy with ultra-low latency. This automatically prevents any audio loss or interruption in the event of a connectivity problem on the primary network.

Bose selects APEX Intelli-X² for European training venue in Belgium

Bose’s European distribution centre is located in Tongeren near Belgium’s eastern border. The city of Tongeren and Bose have enjoyed a close relationship for many years; indeed Bose has equipped the 600-capacity theatre located in the city’s De Velinx cultural centre with a Bose RoomMatch system and an APEX IX² 48 system management device. The theatre now serves as Bose’s training venue.

“We’ve been promoting our pro portfolio quite aggressively over the last couple of years with a range of products dedicated to the theatre market,” explained Bose’s Gino Moerman. “In order to guarantee optimum quality of their installations, all EMEA support engineers and all Bose distributors are trained in De Velinx.”

The system installed into De Velinx is a Bose RoomMatch system, selected as a result of the unusual egg-shaped theatre space (max width 40m, depth 25m and an 18m-wide stage) which would have have resulted in uneven dispersion patterns if using conventional line array or point-source systems. RoomMatch speakers exist in 42 different dispersion patterns allowing for optimum adaptation to the size and shape of the room. The main L/R system comprises four RoomMatch units with dispersion patterns varying between 120⁰ to 70⁰, supplemented by two flown RMS125 bass speakers. The dispersion of the central cluster units ranges from 120⁰ to 90⁰ with a total dispersion of 60⁰. The system is completed with two side fills to address the front rows and four double 18-inch subs under the stage.

All the speakers are powered by Bose PowerMatch PM8500 8-channel amplifiers with onboard DSP. System tuning was achieved through Bose’s ControlSpace ESP networkable DSP. However, as Moerman explains, the company specifically didn’t want visiting engineers to have access to the ControlSpace device as since too many of the parameters are freely accessible. This meant that the company needed an alternative solution.

“We went for APEX’s IX² 48 system management device thanks to its crystal clear sound, a very intuitive GUI and optimized integration of SMAART,” confirmed Moerman. “It was also strongly recommended to us by well-known Belgian sound engineer, Eric Loots, who knows the unit well as he owns one himself.”

The IX² is one of my go-to tools for system alignment,” explained Loots. “First and foremost, it’s a fantastic-sounding machine and secondly it’s really simple to use. Simplicity was an important aspect for Bose as the technicians from the venue had to be able to operate it as well as visiting sound engineers. The user interface is very clear and has lots of nice features such as the ability to import your SMAART graphs into the EQ window which saves a lot of swapping between programs and/or laptops.

“The IX² serves as overall system processor,” continued Loots. “All level, delay and EQ correction is done in the IX² so the Bose DSP amps are used for speaker processing only. The reason for this is to give visiting engineers a clear overview of the adjustments made to the system and so that they have total control of their own show.”

Moerman agrees. “It’s an ideal solution for us. All of the important parameters such as individual levels, parametric EQ, time delays for L-C-R, fills and subs are freely accessible and can be stored in the internal presets, and multiple presets are programmed for both analogue and digital (AES3) inputs.  There are also presets for a number of standard system configurations such L/R or L/C/R that can be used as a starting point or to reset the system in readiness for a new show.”F

“As a highly popular venue, De Velinx sees different guest engineers coming in almost every week, so it was imperative that the system management be easy to use, even for engineers unfamiliar with the device,” continued Moerman. “APEX’s intuitive Intelliware software makes the system really easy to configure and use, and APEX themselves are always on hand to offer first class support if necessary – all of this along with Eric’s recommendation made it a pretty easy choice for us.

One of our main goals is to constantly provide our users with new and awesome features. That LIVIAU runs on a heavily modified android operating system clearly supports this cause as it enables us to integrate third-party applications. Because, let’s be honest, what feels more intuitive and easy to use than something you already know? LIVIAU R is supplied with a substantial number of third-party apps right out of the box that really turns our room control system into one-stop shop for presentation environments. The latest software version now integrates a Microsoft Office viewer to open all your files in their familiar environment, thus getting rid of any compatibility headaches.

Wireless presenter 

Along with the integration of the MS viewer, the new update makes it possible to wirelessly control your PowerPoint presentations using a wireless presenter. Another interesting modification is the fact that LIVIAU now is compatible with the popular file sharing application, Barco Clickshare, making it even easier to put your documents & presentations on screen. All this makes LIVIAU an even more complete presentation system for your meeting or conference room.


A third and final awesome new feature that we have implemented in the latest software version is TeamViewer, which enables the user to remotely control LIVIAU from anywhere in the world. You don’t even have to be on the same network. Think of all the possibilities this opens up: for example, setting up a presentation for the next day can simply be done from home; or an IT team can easily manage all of the company’s AV equipment from overseas…
